(Noted that the official rules are only on Discord (https://discord.com/channels/360781249616412672/364067449836142592); the wiki page is now just a basic summary that points players to the right place (Discord) for the full rules)

The rules here are subject to change, going with the possible exploits, bugs, and features. They will be changed whenever deemed necessary, and this page will be updated.

Here is a list of some actions that we consider unfair and illegal in the game. If you're spotting someone violating the rules, feel free to message an Administrator in-game with this [[Commands|command]]: '''+requesthelp <message>'''.

This wiki page provides only a condensed '''summary''' of the rules.

*1. No real life threats or harassment - If you want to insult each other about game-related things, it's fine. But if you are caught doxxing, real life insulting, or any other kind of hostility that is NOT game-related, you will be punished.
+
In case of any conflicting information, <u>the Discord version always prevails</u>.
**1A. Posting real life content without permission on discord is forbidden too.

<br>

*2. No excessive racism/prejudice - FOnline is a brutal game, and racism is part of the game lore. But it's best to keep player racism out of the game (unless it is in-game roleplay). This goes alongside the harassment rule... Darn smoothskins...

**2A. National discrimination is considered too.

**2B. Religious discrimination is considered too.

**2C. Flooding chat with spam is forbidden.

**2D. Using trolling Faction tags are forbidden (No such 8-D or GM or insulting).

<br>

*3. Staff Disrespect - Insulting or harassing staff will result in an immediate punishment. If you disagree with something a staff member says or does, feel free to voice your opinion. But keep the disagreement in a respectful conversation.

**3A. Wasting Game staff time for trolling, fake information, +requesthelp for no reason is forbidden.

<br>

*4. Dual-Logging - In ANY situation where a dual-log could increase your chance of winning an immediate PvP situation, dual-logging is prohibited. This includes Dungeons, Town Control, Events, etc. Don't bother looking for loopholes. Dual-Logging IS allowed for PvE or solo activities. Be sure that before you enter a PvP location that at least 3 minutes (1 hour in-game) has passed since your last character was in the aforementioned location before entering with another character.

**4A. Using Multi-logs in cases of PvP and in public locations like dungeons is prohibited. When we mention that it is allowed in PvE situations we mean during personal dungeons, random encounters, personal quests.

**4B. While using multi-log on random encounters remember when another player will enter your encounter, your location becomes public and you MUST log off all characters except one.

**4C. Remember that 3 minutes count AFTER your character disappears from the map; it means after death you must wait 4 minutes.

**4D. Even when there is no PvP and you fast relog to a faction settlement you will get punishment.

**4E. Doing town preview on dual log/fast relog is forbidden.

<br>

*5. Bug/Exploit abuse - If an exploitable bug or feature is found, you MUST report it immediately. We do not need you to test it, we do not need you to look for fixes, we ONLY need you to report it. We will find the fix ourselves. If anyone is caught abusing any exploit, before or after telling us about it, they will be punished severely.

**5A. Entering Caravan encounters and killing the Caravan Master is FORBIDDEN, all situations will be punished!

**5B. Trolling on GM Events is forbidden.

**5C. Team-killing on War Events is forbidden.

**5D. Looting on War Events is forbidden.

**5E. Being AFK during a War Event can cause a 24-hour ban.

**5F. Teaming up with other teams on Reno Wars or other events is forbidden.

**5G. Construction of barricades (sandbags and barrels) in green cities is prohibited as it can cause problems for other players. Such action will be punished with a ban.

**5H. Entering island locations is highly forbidden.

**5I. Having or using items which are not supposed to drop yet is highly forbidden.

**5J. Fighting before the start of a War Event is forbidden and Using Recall before the start of a battle on a war event end is forbidden.

**5K. Naming companions (patreon feature) similar to one's own char name or the same as another player is forbidden.

**5L. Frequently joining late to War events is forbidden.

**5M. Using the robobrain feature (patreon feature) in ANY situation where a robobrain could increase your chance of winning an immediate PvP situation is forbidden.

<br>

*6. Player Impersonation - If a player is caught trying to impersonate any other player or staff member, they will be punished.

**6A. Including faction names or tags.

<br>

*7. Selling/Trading in-game content for real money/goods - This one is self-explanatory. Don't try to sell your stuff for real money. This includes items, characters, or in-game currency.

**7A. Trading in-game content for other game content is forbidden too.

<br>

*8. Character Sharing - Character sharing is allowed, but will be done AT YOUR OWN RISK! If you share a character, and log in the next day with your base empty, it's YOUR FAULT. We will not compensate you for your lack of common sense. The Wasteland is a harsh place.

**8A. Baseraping Roleplay faction is forbidden.

**8B. Asking dev/gm for help in baserape/lost car/inside faction traitors/lying in faction/somebody joined to steal car will be punished. Only factions: Enclave, Brotherhood of Steel, Vault City, Master Army, NCR, and Raiders are immune from baseraping.

<br>

*9. Propaganda or supporting inappropriate historical figures or their groups - if you want to draw swastikas then not here.

<br>

*10. Using 3rd party tools to gain an advantage, including bots to auto-play or AFK macros.

<br>

*11. Using any language apart from English on global chat /g is forbidden. If someone points this out and you ignore it, you may be punished.

<br>

*12. Hacking and stealing accounts by leaked passwords is forbidden.

<br>

*13. It is forbidden to have more than 35,000 items in a single base. When you reach that number you will get a warning about it while you enter the base. (NOTE: 1 stack, for example, 3000000 bottle caps or metal parts or any other stackable item is considered as 1 item).

<br>

Possible sanctions:

* Warning.

* Temporary ban.

* Permanent ban.

* Banning faction from participating in [[Town Control]].

Additional note:

Based on ban records spanning close to seven years, here are some common pitfalls to avoid and points to consider:
 +

 +
*Other than the automated 24-hour ban for AFKing during a War Event, the most common ban reason is dual-logging/fast relog.
 +
**The 3-minute cooldown is strictly enforced, quite literally to the second, with some bans having been issued for cutting it just a few seconds short.
 +
**Many players have been banned over the years for trying to leave an area that became a PvP zone with their second character instead of logging it off.
 +
**A good number of players received a ban for fast relogging to a faction settlement, which is explicitly forbidden even if there's no ongoing PvP.
 +
*Cooperation matters: players who acknowledged their mistakes, explained the exploits, or helped identify bugs often received reduced penalties. Lying, hiding information, or otherwise being uncooperative led to harsher punishments in a significant number of cases. This isn't real life; remaining silent is not the play when the other side ''actually'' has access to detailed logs of everything that happened, especially now with AI tools at their disposal to easily process said logs.
 +
*Disrespecting the staff was a component (the "final straw" if you will) in a majority of permanent bans issued to date. Is going out with a bang really worth it?
 +
*Botting is a zero-tolerance offense. All confirmed cases resulted in a permanent ban, often with an accompanying IP ban. This includes, but is not limited to, auto-looters, barter bots, and PvP macros. Don't risk it.
 +
*When in doubt, ask. One adventurous player claimed a deserted island as their own by building a base on it, and got rewarded for their gumption with a 2-week vacation on the ''prison'' island. Your mileage may vary, but every road eventually leads somewhere.
