Cases are mobile loot containers that require a special key to open.
Tier 1
Electronic Key
Tier 1 cases are opened with Electronic Keys. They can be purchased for 10k currency from Ascorti in Redding, or Paul Tibbett in Las Vegas.
Warning:The key is one use only, since it is consumed when you open a case with it.
Science case
Science cases have a chance to drop t3 blueprints, or nothing.
Drug case
Drug cases drop t3 drugs, and have a chance to drop Hypo and Med Tec Anitdote.
Bank case
Bank Cases drop currency. Up to 100k+ in various Currencies (but can be less than 5k), and have a chance to drop gold coins.
Tier 2
Vault-Tec Key
Vault-Tec keys are used to open tier 2 cases. They can be acquired from traders Renesco and Eldridge in New Reno when a world event "New Reno Key provided" adds them to their inventory.
They also drop from Renesco Secret Shelter.
Check the loot table page for more info on drop rates.
Vault-Tec Case
Vault-Tec cases drop tier 3 Weapons and Armor and have a chance to drop tier 4 blueprints, implants, vertibird parts, tier 4 ammo and rare items.

| Case tier | Electronic lockpick MKI chance to break | Electronic lockpick MKII chance |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 in 25 | 1 in 100 |
| 2 | 1 in 5 | 1 in 18 |
| 3 | Always breaks, chance to open is 5% | Always breaks, chance to open is 15% |
Untiered cases
In addition to loot cases, there are also several items that look like cases but either cannot be or aren't meant to be opened by players.
Briefcase
An unopenable junk-tier item that can occasionally be found in trash cans. There are also several quest items that look like this.
Metal Box
You may encounter several variations of these during various quests. Some metal boxes can be opened but doing so means failing their related quests.
