Template:Trait Heavy Handed (HH) is a trait that gives your melee attacks a chance to apply a status effect while lowering their critical power.

Effect calculation

The exact effect that HH triggers depends on the attacker's Total Heavy Handed Strength (a.k.a. the "Heavy Handed Malus").

Total Heavy Handed Strength = Current Strength + Heavy Handed Bonuses – Heavy Handed Penalties

Whenever a melee attack connects, the target is allowed a defensive roll to help them resist the effects. First they roll to avoid Knockback, then AP Drain, then Slow, then Confusion.

The rolls get progressively less effective:

Effect Defensive roll
Knockback 1-40
AP Drain 1-30
Slow 1-20
Confusion 1-10

As soon as the value of the target's defensive roll is outmatched by the attacker's Total HH Strength, the effect that their target failed to resist triggers, and no further rolls are made (only one effect can trigger per attack).

Regardless of the outcome of the rolls, Heavy Handed adds +2 lethal damage to all melee attacks and reduces their critical power by 20%.

Note: The Jinxed trait provides full immunity to Heavy Handed effects.

HH modifiers

Bonuses

  • Bonus HtH Rapid (perk synergy): +5 STR for the attacker's HH calculation if they have it
  • Smasher! (weapon perk): up to +18 STR for the attacker's HH calculation if they have it
  • Punch Weapons: +5 STR for the attacker's HH calculation if they're using them
  • Soldier receives +1 STR extra for the HH calculation when they're the attacker

Penalties

  • Mutie: +10 HH resistance for the target that used it; +15 HH res if the target is a Regulator with Chem Reliant (which translates to -10/-15 STR for the attacker's HH calculation)
  • Thwart Block (armor perk): up to +18 HH resistance for the target that has it (which translates to -18 STR for the attacker's HH calculation)
  • VC Armor: +10 HH resistance for the target that wears it (which translates to -10 STR for the attacker's HH calculation)
  • Eyebot transformation of the Robot class: +20 HH resistance for the Eyebot being targeted (which translates to -20 STR for the attacker's HH calculation)
  • Soldier receives +1 HH resistance (which translates to -1 STR for the attacker's HH calculation) when they're the target
