Factions come in two flavors: player factions (created and defined by players) and NPC factions.

Your character cannot join multiple factions but if you create additional characters ("alts"), they will be able to join any faction they want, one per character of course.

Player factions

Player faction members are able to have a shared base and a custom faction name.

The main reason to establish/join a player faction is the ability to participate in Town Control.

NPC factions

NPC factions are displayed overhead for NPCs that belong to them. Attacking a faction NPC will turn all NPCs from that faction hostile.

Players cannot join any NPC factions except the lore factions.
