Bases are private locations established and controlled by individual players. They provide a safe space to store loot and relax that cannot normally be accessed by anyone the owner did not invite.

Bases in FOnline 3 have come a long way and some of the old info floating around may no longer apply.

Most bases can be created anywhere using specialized items that can be either crafted, looted, or purchased.

Faction leaders can convert their private bases into faction bases, which allows them to be automatically shared with faction members; see player-driven factions for details.

Basic information

In FOnline 3, bases start in the form of a map item, or a craftable base creation kit, that can be used in any empty randomly generated map to transform it into a base. Once you've chosen the location and used the map, a construction site for the base is established to which you must then deliver materials to complete the construction process. If you're establishing a tier I base using a base creation kit, the resource collection phase is skipped and your base is instantly ready to use.

There are several ways to get your hands on an itemized base:

  • New characters can get a free Folded Tent, which lets them set up a tier I "Tent" base, by completing the quest A Tent in the Wasteland.
  • All tier I bases can be established using base creation kits that can be cheaply crafted once your character reaches level 24 provided your Crafting skill is above 50%, see the Tier I section below for details.
  • Tier I, II, and III bases can be bought for 10,000, 25,000, and 50,000 local currency respectively from Construction Foreworkers in NCR, New Vault City, and San Francisco.
  • Tier IV and V bases can be obtained as rewards for supporting the game.
  • All base tiers can drop from the sources with a percentage value in the loot table's "base map" column.

Once you have an itemized base, move to your desired location on the world map, enter it, and then immediately use the base map. This will either create your base or set up a construction site, depending on the item you used. If you used a map to create a construction site, you will need to gather enough resources to finish the construction. The resources can be dropped anywhere on the construction site. Each construction site has a construction worker NPC overseeing it, and a bulletin-board on an A-stand that tracks your progress. When everything is ready, talk to the construction worker to finalize the setup by naming your new base, but make sure that there aren't any valuable items on the ground first as everything on the map will be wiped!

Legacy premade bases

In the old days, bases were inseparably tied to the faction mechanic and could only be purchased by a group of players who wished to establish a faction. While this is no longer true, some remnants of the old system remain available to players who crave for a "blast from the past" experience.

Legacy premade bases don't require gathering resources for their construction; you simply pay a fee and get a ready-to-use base right away. The catch is that the selection of bases is very limited, they don't let you pick the spot where you want them placed (instead, they spawn in the general vicinity of where you bought them), and they do still require that you establish a faction at the moment of purchase.

There are three trapper NPCs that sell premade bases, mostly caves, for between 30K and 50K of local currency:

  • Smiley in Klamath (Downtown, Buckner House)
  • Hurl in Redding (Malamute Saloon)
  • Earl in Junktown (Bar just south-east of the hospital building)

Additionally, if you're looking for something truly exceptional, the Old Bunker premade base is also still available for 350,000 units of the faction currency that Necropolis uses. And it too will require a faction to purchase.

Available bases

This section contains a complete list of all the bases currently available to FOnline 3 players.

Tier I

Tier I bases have one parking spot and do not require a map: you can simply craft their base creation kits, which lets you skip the material gathering process. Their crafting requirements are listed below.

If you prefer to instead use a map you've found/purchased, the materials required to construct the bases are also listed in the table below.

Tip: New characters can get a free Folded Tent for completing the starter quest A Tent in the Wasteland.

Designing your own base

The mapper tool, now in a much improved version 2.0, is available to all players. Everyone is welcome to design their own base and submit it. For more information, see this Discord message.

Base management

To access the base management menu, press Enter to toggle the message bar, type ~base, and hit Enter again to confirm.

The menu allows you to customize your base in several ways: you can add objects (lockers, decorations, and even an Advanced Workbench), ask the base to automatically populate (according to the rules you set) your containers with items that are currently on the ground, and enable other characters to access it. And if you decide that you don't need one of your bases anymore, there's also an option to destroy it.

Base location sharing

If you wish to grant access to one of your bases to another character, you can do so via map access objects.

A map access object can be either a stationary object that you built in your base and designated as such, or a map item that you created by copying the location of your base onto an Empty Map.

If you don't have any Empty Maps, you can craft one. The requirements are as follows: Advanced Workbench, level 50, Crafting 150%, 3 x Fibers, 3 x High Quality Fibers.

To set up a stationary map access object:

  1. Place 1 x Junk, Wood, or Metal Parts in your inventory.
  2. Use the ~base command.
  3. From the menu that appears, choose the [Build] option.
  4. Select any object to build it.
  5. Select "set as a map access object" from the list that appears once the object has been built...

...and you're done! Anyone that interacts with the object you just built will gain access to the base it's in. You can use the Science skill on the object to remove its ability to grant map access.

To copy the location of your base onto an Empty Map:

  1. Set up a stationary map access object following the instructions above.
  2. Place an Empty Map in your inventory.
  3. Left-click and hold the map access object.
  4. Choose the backpack icon from the drop-down menu that appears.
  5. Left-click the Empty Map...

...and you're done! Any character that uses the map will gain access to your base, or bases (an Empty Map can store up to 10 locations).

WARNING: If a map access object gets blown up with explosives, its associated base will be deleted. It is highly recommended to disable map access by using the Science skill on the object as soon as it is no longer needed.

The above guide is also available in video form at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MB51i8ESe6I.

Interior decoration

Every base you can see on the world map allows you to build workbenches, containers, and decorations.

Each object you build "reserves" one point of your Engineering skill.

Whenever you create an object, you'll be given an option of imbuing it with one or more of the following abilities:

  • [Can't walk on it], which will make the hex(es) underneath it impassable.
  • [Can't shoot through] which will turn the hex(es) underneath it into aim blockers (note that those are also impassable).
  • [Set it as map access object] will make it so that interacting with the object will grant access to your base.
  • [Set exit] will make it so that interacting with the object will kick you to the world map. Note that exit objects cannot be deleted with the Engineering skill; you need to mark them and use the ~removeobject command.
  • [No more abilities] will close the dialog window. Make sure that you've selected all the desired options before choosing this one because there's no going back.

Workbenches

There are three options related to workbenches:

Containers

Storing your items on the ground is fine in the early game, but as you acquire more and more loot, your base will slowly turn into a landfill. Containers can help alleviate that.

  • Each container costs 1 Wood, 1 Junk, or 1 Metal Parts to create.
  • You can choose whether you want to allow the objects to be walked or shot through.
  • The Engineering skill can be used to delete any unwanted/misplaced containers.

Loot sorting automation

The Easy Base Sorting system (EBS) allows you to set per-container rules for automatic distribution of loot so that it can then distribute any loot you drop on the ground for you semi-automatically.

To access EBS, use the ~base command, wait for a dialog window to appear, then click [Login] → [Password] → [EBS].

This will present you with five options. Here's what they do:

  • [Information] displays some basic information about the system;
  • [Edit Container] allows you to edit containers (one at a time);
  • [Wipe.exe] distributes all of the items currently on the ground to their respective containers according to the rules you've set. If there is more than one container that an item could go into, the container with the lowest ID (i.e. the one that was created first) will be used.
  • [Back] takes you to the previous menu.
  • [Exit] closes the dialog window.
Hex marking.jpg
  • If you wish to edit a container, you must first select it by marking the hex, or one of the hexes, that the container occupies.
  • If the container has either the "can't be walked on" or "can't be shot through" property enabled, the correct hex to mark will display an X in the middle when you try to step on it.
  • To mark a hex, press and hold the left alt key, left-click the hex you wish to mark, and then select one of the commands (Attack, Defend, or Move) from the menu that appears.

Selecting the [Edit Container] option allows you to perform several operations on the currently selected container: you can (re)name it, set custom rules for it, or reset it and start over.

Marked and labeled container.jpg
A marked and labeled box

  • [Rename container] lets you set a custom name for the marked container that will display on hover.
  • If you don't name the container, it will instead display the custom rules that were applied to it as its label.
  • To undo the renaming, simply use the "Rename container" option again without providing a new name.
  • Note that resetting the container will not clear its custom label.

[Set Global Rule] allows you to select a category of items, such as drugs or ammo that will be placed in the container. Note that rare items (such as the Water Chip) are separate from rare parts (such as Unique Plasma Parts, and that body armor is separate from helmets.

[Set Rule 1], [Set Rule 2], [Set Rule 3], [Set Rule 4], and [Set Rule 5] allow you to assign a specific item (rather than a group of items) to the container. The item you wish to assign to the container must be in your active hand slot for this to work.

[Set Tier] allows you to relegate all items of a specific tier to the container.

[Set Minimum Rank] allows you to exclude items based on the sum of their armor/weapon perk ranks. The value has to be between 1 and 56. Keep in mind that rank F = 1, rank E = 2, rank D = 3, rank C = 4, rank B = 5, rank A = 6, rank S = 7, rank S+ = 8.

[Reset Container] removes all of the rules from the container. The custom name you gave it will remain unchanged.

Once you're done setting up the containers, drop your loot on the ground and execute [Wipe.exe] to distribute the items to their assigned containers.

Note: Since vehicle trunks are containers, it is possible to modify them using the EBS as well. To find the correct hex to mark, simply have your character access the trunk and they will position themselves on an adjacent hex, facing the trunk's location.

The trunks that can be tricky to find are in the table below:

Vehicle trunks

Base security

  • To avoid having your base raided, make sure you do not have any unwanted followers before you enter.
  • Doors and containers inside a base can be secured using Fingerlocks, which also protects those objects from accidentally getting deleted.
  • Consider putting some defenses (such as mercs) around the perimeter in case a Mad Scientist pays you a visit.
  • Try not to die while carrying an Empty Map that contains the coordinates of your base(s).
  • Placing a juicy-looking exit object right next to the entrance might trick any possible invaders into kicking themselves out.

World map color

Bases' world map icons change color as follows:

  • There is a player inside = pink
  • There is a companion inside = yellow
  • There is a car inside = cyan
  • There is a car and a companion inside = orange
  • There is a car and a player inside = purple
  • There is a companion and a player inside = blue
  • There is a companion and a player and a car inside = black
  • The base is empty = gray
