Bases are private locations established and controlled by individual players. They provide a safe space to store loot and relax that cannot normally be accessed by anyone the owner did not invite.
Bases in FOnline 3 have come a long way and some of the old info floating around may no longer apply.
Most bases can be created anywhere using map items that can be either crafted, looted, or purchased, but there are some, such as the Old Bunker, whose location is always random.
Faction leaders can convert their private bases into faction bases, which allows them to be automatically shared with faction members; see player-driven factions for more details.

Creating a base
There are two different kinds of bases you can buy: DIY bases, which are provided in the form of an item you then use in any empty randomly regenerated map at your desired location to transform it into a base, and premade bases that are automatically generated in a random nearby world map location.
DIY bases
T1, T2, and T3 Do-It-Yourself bases can be bought from a Construction Foreworker for 10,000, 25,000, and 50,000 local currency respectively, or found from sources shown in the Loot Drop table. DIY bases allow you to choose the location, but require that you deliver materials to the construction site to complete the construction process. They are available in three places: NCR, New Vault City, and San Francisco.

Building your base
Once you have a base map item, move to your base's desired location on the world map, enter it, and then immediately use the base map. This will either create your base or set up a construction site, depending on the item you used. The new construction site will have a control terminal and a progress billboard. You will need to gather a certain amount of resources to finish the construction. You can drop the resources anywhere on the construction site to accomplish this. You can use the billboard to see what is needed.
After gathering all of the required materials, you can talk to the construction worker again, and he will ask you to name the base. The base's name is not bound in any way to a faction name.
Note: It is recommended to avoid bringing any items to the construction site other than the necessary resources. They will be lost when the building process is finalized.
Tier 1
Tier I bases have one parking spot and do not require a map; you can simply craft their their base creation kits, such as the Folded Tent or Patch Kit, and use those instead, which lets you skip the material gathering process.

Premade bases
Premade bases don't require gathering resources for their construction; you simply pay a fee and get a ready-to-use base in a semi-randomized location in the general vicinity of where you bought it.
There are three NPCs that sell premade cave bases:
- Smiley in Klamath (Downtown, Buckner House)
- Hurl in Redding (Malamute Saloon)
- Earl in Junktown (Bar just south-east of the hospital building)

Any character of any level who is not already in a faction can start one (Need to confirm a faction is needed for these bases). This can be done by buying your first base. If you are already part of a faction (such as Vault City, BoS, Enclave, Mordinos, another player's faction, etc.), you will not be able to buy a base. You must first leave your previous faction before you can start or join another faction's base. Once a character starts a faction, they automatically become its leader. Only the faction leader can buy additional bases for that faction. However, each player can build their own base if they have a map bought by another character or looted. The Cave Base The Cave, really easy to defend but a bit small. It is divided into two parts: the cliff side with a cave entrance on an empty desert map, and inside of the cave itself. It contains the usual crafting tools (Workbench, still), a brahmin pen and only 3 lockers. It's not a cost effective base since Depot has more containers and is sold at the same price, but the cave does have one advantage: it's very easy to defend because you just have to put mercs or slaves in front of the tiny cave entrance. The cave is the only base you can purchase from all three of the base sellers. Because of this, the Cave is one of the most varied bases around as it can be purchased almost anywhere for a measly 33k caps. The Depot Base
Depot is a small outpost, with 3 lockers, 2 desks (one looks like a workbench), 2 shelves, and 2 table. 9 containers total when you consider it also has a workbench with the standard toolboard for small storage above it and a still. There's also a brahmin pen containing one brahmin. On the map, you can find wood and flint (does not replenish). It's a good and cheap base, and the spawn is straight below the door and chairs outside. Guards can be placed to the far right of the spawn, near the trees. They will have the small spawn area directly in their sight. Base locations seem to typically be somewhere to the West of Klamath. The Depot is sold in Klamath, and is the same price as the Cave, yet offers considerably more in terms of storage space. Depot can be purchased from the base seller Smiley in Klamath. He is located in the bar and hotel at the Main entrance. The Scrapheap Base
Scrapheap is a popular base costing 70 000 caps. It is larger than Depot or Cave. Its location is often between Redding and Broken Hills. It contains 5 lockers, a workbench, a still and a brahmin pen. The Scrapheap offers a low amount of resources when compared to other bases, with the Cave being on similar grounds yet having a bigger brahmin pen and more brahmin than both Depot and Cave. Scrapheap is Redding's specialty base. It is sold from the Redding base seller who is located in the Malamute Saloon, which is above the Doctors building. The Outpost Base
A pre-built outpost is the most expensive base, second only to the bunker. It is very easy to defend because it is surrounded by walls, and has three buildings plus two tents, and is probably the most popular base amongst most players. Its location on the world map will often be between NCR and Junktown. It has 10 containers, a workbench, a still, a water pipe, a well, fibers plants, and a larger brahmin pen with more brahmins than other bases. New characters can shovel more poo in peace. It's a large map with plenty of space on the ground to lay out rows of important items. The Outpost base is the speciality base sold from the Junktown base seller, who is located in the very first building after entering Junktown via the south gate.
The bunker is by far the most expensive base. While the outside part of the map is very difficult to defend, an enemy will have a very difficult time getting to the inside of a well-guarded bunker. It has fifteen lockers, a crate near its still, two computers that contain electronic parts, four private rooms in the back with showers, a waterpipe, a broken Mr Handy robot, a broken elevator, and wall safes that are often overlooked. The room with four lockers is locked with a yellow pass key, making it safer to store your valuables in the event of a raid, for a total of 23 storage containers plus a workbench. It houses a large conference room with a big-screen video display toward the back for those important meetings. Besides its massive amount of storage space, the mouth of the bunker opens into a small mine with iron ore and minerals, making this by far the best base money can buy. Oddly enough, the base has no brahmin pen. |
Designing your own base
The mapper tool, now in a much improved version 2.0, is available to all players. Everyone is welcome to design their own base and submit it. For more information, see this Discord message.
Base management
To access the base management menu, press Enter to toggle the message bar, type ~base, and hit Enter again to confirm.
The menu allows you to customize your base in several ways: you can add objects (lockers, decorations, and even an Advanced Workbench), ask the base to automatically populate (according to the rules you set) your containers with items that are currently on the ground, and enable other characters to access it. And if you decide that you don't need one of your bases anymore, there's also an option to destroy it.
Base location sharing
If you wish to grant access to one of your bases to another character, you can do so via map access objects.
A map access object can be either a stationary object that you built in your base and designated as such, or a map item that you created by copying the location of your base onto an Empty Map.
If you don't have any Empty Maps, you can craft one. The requirements are as follows: Advanced Workbench, level 50, Crafting 150%, 3 x Fibers, 3 x High Quality Fibers.
To set up a stationary map access object:
- Place 1 x Junk, Wood, or Metal Parts in your inventory.
- Use the
~basecommand. - From the menu that appears, choose the [Build] option.
- Select any object to build it.
- Select "set as a map access object" from the list that appears once the object has been built...
...and you're done! Anyone that interacts with the object you just built will gain access to the base it's in. You can use the Science skill on the object to remove its ability to grant map access.
To copy the location of your base onto an Empty Map:
- Set up a stationary map access object following the instructions above.
- Place an Empty Map in your inventory.
- Left-click and hold the map access object.
- Choose the backpack icon from the drop-down menu that appears.
- Left-click the Empty Map...
...and you're done! Any character that uses the map will gain access to your base, or bases (an Empty Map can store up to 10 locations).
WARNING: If a map access object gets blown up with explosives, its associated base will be deleted. It is highly recommended to disable map access by using the Science skill on the object as soon as it is no longer needed.

Interior decoration
Every base you can see on the world map allows you to build workbenches, containers, and decorations.
Doors and containers inside a base can be secured using Locks or Fingerlocks, which also protects those objects from accidentally getting deleted.

The Easy Base Sorting system (EBS) allows you to set per-container rules for automatic distribution of loot so that it can then distribute any loot you drop on the ground for you semi-automatically.
