Cases are mobile loot containers that require a special single-use key to open. |
Tier 1
Electronic Key
Electronic Keys are used to open tier 1 cases. They can be purchased for 10,000 currency from Ascorti in Redding (14:11), or Paul Tibbett in Las Vegas (40:32).
Science Case
Science Cases have a chance to drop T3 blueprints. They may be empty.
Drug Case
Drug Cases have a chance to drop T3 drugs, Hypos, and Med-Tec Antidotes. They may be empty.
Bank Case
Bank Cases can drop as little as 40 currency, and as much as 105000 currency depending on the current major patch, how many ranks of Scrounger the opener has, and random chance; see Currency#Bank Case for details.
They may occasionally contain a small quantity (~20) of Golden Dollars.
Tier 2
Vault-Tec Key
Vault-Tec keys are used to open tier 2 cases. They can be purchased for 100,000 currency from Renesco and Eldridge in Reno (20:18).
Whenever a Vault-Tec Key is added to either of the two traders' inventories, a global message "New Reno Key provided" briefly appears at the top of the screen.
They also drop from Renesco Secret Shelter.
Vault-Tec Case
Vault-Tec Cases drop tier 3 weapons and armor, and have a chance to drop tier 4 blueprints, implants, vertibird parts, tier 4 ammo and rare items; see the loot table for more information.
Faction cases
Lore faction cases drop the same loot as Vault-Tec Cases except they each have a unique drop pool of T4 and T5 blueprints.
| Case name | T4 BP pool | T5 BP pool |
|---|---|---|
Enclave Case
|
||
BoS Case
|
||
NCR Case
|
||
VC Case
|
||
TMA Case
|
Tier 3
High-Tech Encrypted Key
High-Tech Encrypted Keys can be used to open tier 3 Cases. They drop from tier 6 dungeons.
Black Cross Case
Black Cross Cases drop random WE stats, and have a chance to drop a random tier 4 part.
Technical Case
Technical Cases drop random tier 4 blueprints, and have a chance to drop a random tier 4 part.
Mad Scientist Case
Opening a Mad Scientist Case teleports you to a random base. It has a 25% chance to kill you.
Lockpicking
All Cases can be picked with electronic lockpicks. The higher the tier of the Case, the more likely the lockpicks are to break.
| Case tier | Electronic lockpick MKI chance to break | Electronic lockpick MKII chance |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 in 25 | 1 in 100 |
| 2 | 1 in 5 | 1 in 18 |
| 3 | Always breaks, chance to open is 5% | Always breaks, chance to open is 15% |
Untiered cases
In addition to loot cases, there are also several items that resemble loot cases but either cannot be or aren't meant to be opened by players.
Briefcase
An unopenable junk-tier item that can occasionally be found in trash cans. There are also several quest items that look like this.
Metal Box
You may encounter several variations of these during various quests. Some metal boxes can be opened but doing so means failing their related quests.
