Traits are optional character modifications that can be selected upon its creation.
Unlike perks, traits provide their bonuses at a significant cost.
There is a default limit of two traits per character, but completing the second chapter of the main quest unlocks an additional trait slot for a total of 3 that can be set using the ~traits command.
The table below shows all of the currently available traits. Note that the Regulator class uses a much different table.
