Getting Started

Here are some rules about this area:

1. Everything you find in here will be taken from you when you leave.

2. Experience gained in here is increased based on patch number.

3. The ~reroll feature is free in here. Use it unlimited times!

4. If you stay in Rockside long enough, you will be able to take a class in here. Regulator (25), Chosen one (30), and Combat Master (35) can be selected.

5. PVP cannot occur in Rockside

6. If possible, playing on CET Sunday will provide you with the greatest experience gains. Every Sunday, there is a server wide experience multiplier.

7. Every time you leave your base, you are place in an instance of Rockside. This means you may not be able to return to the same spot to get your loot when you die!

7b. To know which version of Rockside you are in, check the area next to Francis after leaving your room. The 2 versions are: (1) Burned Carpet, (2) Empty.

Time to explore Rockside.

Walkthrough Part 1

Ok, so before we begin, I recommend making a Melee user build to start Rockside. Guns and ammo can be gotten cheaply, but I find it is easier to start as a melee user and then reroll once I am about level 12-15 and have got a little stuff saved up. A generic build I have used that works for me is: S 10 P 4 E 6 C 4 I 7 A 8 L 1 , Traits: Gifted, Loner. Loner is critical to start this area as the bonus 100% accuracy will make combat grinding doable at the start.

You start this area in a combat scene, you will be teleported into a combat zone that you cannot win. Just walk around, wounded, until you are killed. When you wake up, you will notice you are in a special room. Take note of this room. As you will see, this room is your base while in Rockside. Only you can get here, and anything you store here will be kept safe.

Walk outside the room and talk to Francis, the first guy you meet. Francis, will fill you in on the area and offer a quest to get him a beer. *Optional* To get him a beer you need to head down 2 floors to the basement level and walk south east to the tap house. Tell him you need a beer for Francis and then return for about 100 experience. Also, on the basement level, you can speak to a caravaner named Arnold to receive the support perk: Strong back.

On Floor 2, just to the south, there is a woman standing next to a large computer terminal. Speak to her with an intelligence of at least 6 to receive the Swift Learner support perk (for 10% bonus experience). Near the bar, a man named Hunter will provide Leather armor and Leather Jackets for killing Rats and Scorpions. Afterwards head to the north east room and head down the stairs.

Once down stairs, walk south west to enter a small room. This room has a Mr. Gusty robot that can teach you to drive a car. While this is not important now as there are no cars inside Rockside, it awards nearly 6000 experience, a huge jump start into your leveling. To complete his quest, say the Following lines:

Teach me... / I am... / Sure... / Listen Further [X6] / Try to remember... / Next... / You take... /

Red Button/ Press and Hold Red Button / Insert Microfusion Cell/ Press Red Button.

Once done with this, you can now drive a car and should be about level 4. Walk into the room to the west and behind the counter is a ghoul that sells weapons. If you need a weapon, talk to him. For close combat, simply leave out the green hex grid to the east. At level 5, close combat users can make sharpened spears for 3 wood. To get wood, walk outside and enter the shack with a person named chopper in it. Speak with him to get an axe, then chop as much wood as you want. Remember to return to your safe room from time to time. From this same area, you can also speak to Justin to get a shovel and start shoveling brahmin crap. If you do, you get about ~20 experience and 5 caps per shovel. I suggest shoveling crap until at least level 5 (which should not take much after completing the driver's license quest), as at this point, you can craft sharpened spears.

Keep your eyes open for random loot and gear sitting around in Rockside. Players will stash things and die from time to time, leaving this gear open to the first person to find it. Finding a lucky pile of gear can jump start your leveling dramatically, reducing the amount of grinding you need to get to better gear and fighting stronger creatures.

The Combat Grind

In the area to the west of the first outdoors location, you will encounter a large amount of scorpions. This can be a great start to begin leveling up. If you are new to fonline 3, this is a good area to get used to combat. The scorpions here are significantly easier than the manti, dogs, molerats to the west. To the north there is a small cave with many rats in it. While they provide better experience, the sheer number and their increased damage make them considerably tougher. Fight slow and don't take too many chances. When low hit points, retreat and use first aid. Be careful, each new area you go to increases the mobs difficulty.

The spore plants in the area to the west along the green river bank are a popular choice to fight. They typically only fight one at a time, allowing you to slowly clear the group. With a wrench they can be dispatched without being hit, making them a super easy experience. As you level, getting your weapon skill up to 100 (or 200 without Loner trait) should be a priority. After that, I would highly suggest getting First Aid to 200. This will lower the cool down time considerably and increase how much hit points each first aid use recovers.

I would advise sticking to areas with many melee fighters until you have gotten a class and stored some gear. Once you feel confident enough, you can attempt the aliens/ Deathclaws in the cave. Also, the village to the far west of Rockside houses melee tribals you can fight. You get considerably more experience in these areas, but the difficulty and danger have increased. Once you are killing Deathclaws with relative success, you should be nearly strong enough to start attacking the ranged combatants in the city ruins south east of the village.

Once you clear the city ruins, you can continue heading east to find more heavily armored slags. Fight through them and head down the stairwell inside the shack to see the bunker below. This is the final area of Rockside, housed with high hp robots. At this point, the grind can begin. Killing in Rockside is very cost effective as once you leave, ammo becomes a more significant concern. Being able to level in these areas with increased experience will make help you survive in the wasteland once you leave. The wasteland is tough and unforgiving. Those who exit Rockside before level 24 will find it to be even more challenging as they will not be able to make tents to store their finds.

Note: If you get radiated while fighting aliens, there is a doctor on the second floor of the large building in the basement.

Basement Quests

There are handful of mini quests that can be completed in the basement location. Here is a brief list:

1.Francis needs a beer. Go to Cooke, tell him, come back.

2.Alexis Fritz needs someone to talk to Van graphs. Go upstairs talk to hooded Constantain, convince him, come back.

3.Judith need Rum. Go to Cooke, tell him, come back. Tell Judith he wont, go back and buy it (25 caps) come back.

4.Doctor Redwolf needs 5 hypodermics. Go to Cooke (taphouse) and come back.

5.Doctor Redwolf can't find his pet scorpion Bruce. Go to bottom left corner of Basemont, tell Bruce and come back.

6.Kyles01 Prime wants a beer. Get him a beer and come back.

7.Terminal next to Bruce provides Vault-tec instructions. Select the proper responses.

8.Sally wants 20 10mm ammo. Bring her 20 and she will give you a 10mm Pistol and let you keep the ammo.

Starter Build

This is a simple starter build I used to get around Rockside quickly. The purpose of this build is to facilitate movement around Rockside, including running away from combat, while also promoting an adequate melee fighter. Significantly stronger builds can be made once class perks are unlocked.

Melee Runner Mode: Realtime
A beginners build using Melee weapons, designed to run fast and aid with early leveling in Rockside. *Note* This build is just a guide to help get started. Any build can thrive in Rockside.
